This family of four came to Vermilion Interiors ready to design and style their dream and forever home. A working professional couple with two boys and a dog, these clients needed a home that delivered on function, grew alongside their family, and could stand the test of time with classic elegance.
Natural Light and Windows
Windows and natural light was one of this family’s top requirements! The abundant natural light and ample windows makes the architectural millwork even more attention-grabbing! Some of our favorite elements include the custom front door with side panels, the custom barn door in the mudroom made of reclaimed barnwood, and thoughtful finishes and stains throughout the home bringing together stunning hardwood floors and the many detailed touches.
Pizzazz in the Powder Room
A surprise gem of the home… this powder bathroom is a small space that packs a big punch! A palette of black, white, and gray with accents of gold was used to set the stage but the accent wall steals the show providing a stunning floor-to-ceiling mosaic. We love the classic pattern of circles on circles with translucent white glass and charcoal-gray grout. The cast comes together with a custom black vanity, satin brass hardware, and a trilogy of globe glass pendants completing the space.
Industrial Organic Design
Who says work can’t be fun!? This office brings industrial and organic design together with metal and wood elements. The space is relaxing while also being inspiring and enjoyable to work in. The walls were painted a cool gray, balanced by a textured accent wall in a linen print geode wall covering. Natural walnut and cherry casegoods help to ground the room, with the help of the ivory and gray hand woven rug. This monochromatic office space is filled with beauty and texture!
Relaxing Family Room
Light, bright, and airy is the name of the game in this family room! A place to gather as a family, hangout, read, watch TV, play games together, and just be. We infused the space with cheer, natural light, and designed it in a way so the owners can easily bring in different pops of color through accent pillows and accessories as the seasons shift and change. A custom mantel and fireplace is the main focal point of the room with a herringbone clay brick pattern inside, classic detailing, and a contemporary look and feel.
It’s all about the food!
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, we’ve got this family covered when it comes to mealtimes! Careful planning went into the eating areas both in aesthetics and function. The style is classic with modern touches in the kitchen and breakfast nook which features white cabinetry, open shelving, and a beautiful stainless and chrome custom hood. The breakfast nook provides a proper start to the day with plenty of natural sunlight. A separate area for homework and storage of all the things ensures this space always stays tidy and functional. The spacious dining room is full of ambience and serves as a formal place to host family and friends. Heirloom pieces and architectural details bring a sense of timelessness while a neutral modern area rug introduces the modernity.
And a place to kick off your shoes…
With a family of four and a dog always coming and going, there’s always multiple pairs of shoes per person, tangled leashes, dirty socks kicked off, cleats caked with mud, and jackets and backpacks that were tossed aside hastily while in search of a snack to get through homework hour. A mudroom needs to be a well-organized space that allows everyone to come and go without looking like a tornado went through it. Open lockers let each family member store their seasonal belongings, offer easy grab-and-go, and keep things tidy. Storage for first floor cleaning supplies and a sink area for wet clothing items that come into the house keep this entry nearly spotless. Maybe we’ll have to consider renaming it from a “mudroom” to something else!
No detail was spared as we intentionally selected every element in this Naperville Home Design project. We loved working with this family to make them feel a strong connection with their home. This new build is a great example of how great interior design is something you can just feel!
One of the many reasons these clients chose Vermilion Interiors was because they trusted us to help them navigate through the home design and build process, no matter what challenges arose.
Zoning setbacks came right away as only one side of the home was approved, so the original floor plans had to be redrawn. Working with the architect and builder, we came up with a new floor plan the owners were over the moon about!
We also took into account that one of their sons has asthma and were careful to find solutions that combated dust and dander including hardwood flooring throughout the home and ceramic tile and porcelain in the bathrooms.
They wanted a first floor layout that was less of an open space concept than their current home, with defined spaces and rooms.
We guided them through these challenges and preferences with ease and confidence and helped them make decisions that were right for everyone in the family.
Vermilion Interiors sat down with this couple to learn more about their preferences, lifestyle, and unique style. They were ready to break out of the mold in their Naperville neighborhood with their home design and wanted something with character.
They were able to give us a lot of information about how they lived and what they were looking for and knew that the detail matters as we took them through our intentional, collaborative process.
This family loves their new space! The time and attention to detail during the planning and design process has definitely paid off. This home blends perfectly with their busy lives as it offers a haven away from all the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
Sophisticated, comfortable, and family-friendly… maybe you really can have it all!
Let us help you to relax more intentionally at home!
